This website and the New Zealand Cyber Security Awareness Programme have been developed as part of the government’s Cyber Security Strategy.
NetSafe acts as the central coordinating organisation, pulling together support from a whole host of government and industry sponsors and partners to provide simple computer security advice so that every New Zealander can protect themselves online.
Home internet users and small business owners can explore this site for a range of free and easy to understand guides on key computer security issues. We are grateful for the financial support offered by the following sponsor organisations:
We also recognise the work that many government partners play in securing New Zealand:
Department of Internal Affairs
The Department of Internal Affairs are responsible for several key areas of the nation’s digital security: Censorship Compliance enforce New Zealand’s censorship rules; spam complaints are dealt with by the Department of Internal Affairs Anti-Spam Compliance Unit and Identity and Data Services oversee single sign-on services and identity theft resources.
National Cyber Security Centre
The New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre provides enhanced services to government agencies and critical infrastructure providers to assist them to defend against cyber-borne threats. The Centre is a key element of New Zealand’s Cyber Security Strategy.
New Zealand Defence Force
The mission for the New Zealand Defence Force is: ”To secure New Zealand against external threat, to protect our sovereign interests, including the Exclusive Economic Zone, and to take action to meet likely contingencies in New Zealand’s area of strategic interest.” The Defence White Paper addresses the growing issue of cyber attacks.
New Zealand Police
New Zealand Police have a role to play in addressing both domestic and international cyber crime. The Police National Cyber Crime Centre (NC3) in Wellington works with the Serious Fraud Office, NZ Customs and international law enforcement partners.
